Diary, 1844-1846.

This diary of A[rthur] G. Bennett (1810-1846?) of Woodstock, Vt., relates through sporadic daily entries his routine in the period March 18, 1844-May 11, 1846. After working in a saw mill in Woodstock and attending a state Whig Party political convention in Burlington in June, Bennett leaves Woodstock in April, 1845, and takes the inland water route west to Chicago. He recounts travelling about Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, and various factory jobs he took to support himself. The diary ends with his arrival in South Bend, Ind. (where he evidently died shorty thereafter), after a visit home to Woodstock to see his family and friends.
